Empty Blackandwhite By Tomwasilewski-d3ipbl6 by 1CEO

Forsaken I sit, in torment, alone on the desolate stage,

My naked soul eviscerated, its tender nerves exposed.

Ravenous demons still prowl through the gathering dusk,

As death’s foul stench rises from my slaughtered dreams.

Shadows reign supreme as my candle sputters and fades.

I languish in the dark, longing for what should have been.

The Fates conspired against me, every step along the way,

Each gain was met by disaster and joy wrapped up in pain.

My spirit, merely flotsam, drifts rudderless in life’s wake.

Nothing is left, no more, I quit, it’s time to call the Reaper.

Half a step before oblivion, I am ambushed by your tears,

A warm cascade, falling across the cold steel of my heart.

Deep in my core a dying ember flares into a blazing torch.

Your compassion ignites me, doubt and fear are cremated,

Desolation destroyed, Fate denied, my muse has returned!

Good art will resonate with the observer, eliciting an emotional response. Great art, however, goes far beyond simply generating emotions. It pokes and prods the viewer and demands their undivided attention. After looking through Tom Wasilewski’s gallery his art didn't just politely ask me to think about it. It viciously attacked me, it threw me down and threatened me. The soul that his artwork possesses forced me, at the point of my own pen, to create something that might come close to reflecting the feelings that were oozing out of his photography.

TomWasilewski’s composition “empty blackandwhite,” helped to create my opening line and so I used it as the cover piece for “The Return.” However, the full poem was inspired by many of the photographs in his gallery. If you aren't familiar with his work you definitely need to take a look. Some of the emotions and the feelings that were dredged up as I looked through his portfolio had been buried deep within me for a long time and they were grateful to find a kindred soul.
